Description
CM15 is a plain carbon steel with a nominal 0.15% carbon content and higher content of S (0.020-0.040%).
Applications
Seamless circular steel tubes for mechanical and general engineering purposes. Non-alloy and alloy steel tubes. Steels for case hardening.Physical properties (average values) at ambient temperature
Modulus of elasticity [103 x N/mm2]: 210
Density [g/cm3]: 7.85Soft Annealing
Heat to 650-700oC, cool slowly in furnace.
Carburizing
Carburizing temperature: 880-980oC.
Cooling from carburizing temperature: water, oil, air, thermal bath.
Core hardening temperature: 880-920oC.
Tempering
Tempering temperature: 150-180oC.
Forging
Hot forming temperature: 1050-850oC.
Machinability
Machinability of CM15 steel is fairly good, especially in the cold drawn or cold worked condition. Based upon carbon steel AISI 1112 as a reference that is considered 100% machinable (easily machined) the CM15 steel has a rating of 55%.
