We all know that steel and iron are iron carbon alloys with iron as the basic component. Due to the different carbon content of iron carbon alloy, the properties of pig iron and steel are quite different. Pig iron has high carbon content, hard and brittle, and poor cold and hot workability; Steel has better toughness, high strength, and better hot workability and welding performance than pig iron, so it can be processed into various types of steel for use. So today I will introduce a common steelmaking method -- converter steelmaking method.

Converter steel making takes molten iron, scrap steel and ferroalloy as the main raw materials, and does not rely on external energy to complete the steel making process in the converter by relying on the physical heat of molten iron itself and the heat generated by chemical reaction between molten iron components. The converter is divided into acidic and alkaline parts according to refractory materials. The parts where gas is blown into the converter include top blowing, bottom blowing and side blowing; According to the type of gas, it can be divided into air converter and oxygen converter. Basic oxygen top blowing and top bottom combined blowing converters are the most commonly used steelmaking equipment because of their fast production speed, large output, high single furnace output, low cost and low investment. The converter is mainly used to produce carbon steel, alloy steel, copper and nickel smelting.
