Applications
Higher stressed components – gears, shafts, crankshafts, connecting rods, cam shafts, etc.
Physical properties (avarage values) at ambient temperature
Modulus of elasticity [103 x N/mm2]: 210
Density [g/cm3]: 7.80
Coefficient of Linear Thermal Expansion 10-6 oC-1

11.1 | 12.1 | 12.7 | 12.9 | 13.5 |
Soft Annealing
Heat to 680-700oC, cool slowly. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 217.
Carburizing
Temperature: 880-950oC. Cooling from carburizing temperature: oil (water), air, thermal bath, cooling box.
Hardening
Core hardening temperature: 850-880oC. Case hardening temperature: 810-840oC. Quenching media: oil, (water), thermal bath.
Tempering
Tempering temperature: 170-210oC.
Forging
Hot forming temperature: 1050-850oC.
