Mat.No. 1.1213/DIN Cf53/AISI 1055
Unalloyed structural carbon steel
Designation by Standards
Mat. No. | DIN | EN | AISI |
1.1213 | Cf53 | - | 1055 |
Chemical Composition (in weight %)
C | Si | Mn | Cr | Mo | Ni | V | W | Others |
0.53 | 0.25 | 0.55 | - | - | - | - | - | - |
Applications
Steels for superficial hardening: Piston bolts, chain bolts, gear shafts, gear wheels, worms and camshafts.
Physical properties (average values) at ambient temperature
Modulus of elasticity [103 x N/mm2]: 210
Density [g/cm3]: 7.84
Soft Annealing
Heat to 650-700oC, cool slowly. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 223.
Normalizing
Temperature: 830-860oC.
Stress Relieving
Stress relieving to remove machining stresses should be carried out by heating to 120-200oC, holding for one hour at heat, followed by air cooling. This operation is performed to reduce distortion during heat treatment.
Hardening
Harden from a temperature of 810-845oC followed by oil or water quenching. Hardness after quenching is 57-62 HRC.
Tempering
Tempering temperature: 550-660oC.
Mechanical Properties in Hardened+Tempered Condition
Diameter (mm) | 0.2% proof stress (N/mm2) | Tensile strength (N/mm2) | Elongation (%) | Reduction (%) |
up to 16 | 510 | 740-880 | 12 | 25 |
17-40 | 430 | 690-830 | 14 | 35 |
41-100 | 400 | 640-780 | 15 | 40 |
Forging
Hot forming temperature: 1050-850oC.
MachinabilityNo data.
