Description
High performance high-speed tungsten steel. The high V content gives the steel the best cutting performance and durability. The Co content offers high tempering durability and hot hardness. The steel has proved particularly beneficial in cases where hard materials being processed cause a high degree of wear of the cutting surface, and where the cutting surface is at an elevated temperature.

Applications
High speed steel, for heavy-duty operations. Turning knives, milling cutters for rough machining, smoothing.

Soft Annealing
Heat to 820-860oC, cool slowly in furnace. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 280.

Stress Relieving
Stress relieving to remove machining stresses should be carried out by heating to 600-650oC, holding for one hour at heat, followed by air cooling. This operation is performed to reduce distortion during heat treatment.

Hardening
1st pre-heating: 400oC. 2nd and 3rd pre-heating: 850oC and 850oC and 1050oC. Harden from a temperature of 1190-1240oC followed by oil or air quenching or warm bath approx. 550oC/air.

Tempering
Tempering temperature: 3 x at 540-580oC. Hardness after tempering is 65-67 HRC.

Forging
Hot forming temperature: 1100-900oC.

Corrosion Resistance
Corrosion resistance of this alloy is better than that of plain carbon steels. However it will rust unless given protective treatment.
