Description
The economical high speed steel for medium life times, has high toughness properties and is suitable for tools which are exposed to knocks and bumps.
Applications
In the metal plating sector, metal circular saw blades, long saw blades and blades for wood machining are manufactured from this steel as a matter of preference.
Physical properties (avarage values) at ambient temperature
Modulus of elasticity [103 x N/mm2]: 210
Density [g/cm3]: 8.0
Thermal conductivity [W/m.K]: 20.0
Electric resistivity [Ohm mm2/m]: 0.65
Specific heat capacity [J/g.K]: 0.46
Soft Annealing
Heat to 780-820oC, cool slowly in furnace. This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 255.
Stress Relieving
Stress relieving to remove machining stresses should be carried out by heating to 600-650oC, holding for one hour at heat, followed by air cooling. This operation is performed to reduce distortion during heat treatment.
Hardening
Harden from a temperature of 1170-1220oC followed by oil or air quenching or warm bath 550-220oC.
Tempering
Tempering temperature: 520-550oC, at least 2x for at least 62 HRC.
Forging
Hot forming temperature: 1150-900oC.
